Wagner College named one of America's top schools by Princeton Review

Wagner College was named one of America's best colleges in the Princeton Review's list of 2017 "Best 381 Colleges" guide, released Monday.

 

The Wagner College Theatre program was also ranked No. 3 in the nation.

 

Only about 15 percent of America's 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the "Best 381 Colleges" book, which is the Princeton Review's flagship college guide.

NYPD hosts backpack giveaway at 123rd Precinct

The 123rd Precinct Community Council hosted their first-ever backpack giveaway Friday, launching a community event that the group hopes to make an annual affair.

 

With help in donations from community members, Councilman Joe Borelli (R-South Shore), Messiah Lutheran Church and other supporters, the Council was able to give out almost 200 backpacks.

US Lutherans Vote to Divest from Fossil Fuels, to Work Towards a Sustainable Future

The church’s action was the culmination of efforts by a coalition of members, spearheaded by Gerry Falco from the Metro New York Synod. "We joined forces with activists from five synods that had pending resolutions like ours," Falco said.

 

The assembly theme of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation galvanized voters.

Garrett VanderBrink IV of Smithtown Becomes an Eagle Scout

1_331.jpg.644x0_q85Garrett’s Eagle Scout project was to build a storage facility for his church, Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fort Salonga, New York. He designed the plans for the construction of the shed, as well as overseeing the building of the facility.

 

"Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout will stay with Garrett for the rest of his life, and the skills and leadership qualities he attained through scouting will guide him in his future endeavors," said Legislator Rob Trotta.

Pastor Johnsen Retires from St. Andrew’s in Yorktown

Pastor Paul Johnsen has stepped down from his leadership role at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Yorktown and is retiring from ministry after 41 years. ... "It’s all about relationships," Johnsen said. "Relationship with God, relationship with people and relationship with the earth."
