Easter Events for the Faithful and Festive

A sampling of seasonal celebrations in New York, including musical and choral services, screenings, readings and processions. All events are free and in Manhattan, unless otherwise noted.

 

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church This Bach-championing church also presents the music of Heinrich Schütz in a program that includes the composer’s "Die Sieben Worte Jesu am Kreuz." Donald R. St. Peter’s Church (Lutheran) Bach’s "St. Matthew Passion" is performed in its entirety, with arias and poetic choruses in German and biblical portions of the libretto in English. Bálint Karosi, the church’s recently appointed cantor, leads this performance, which features period instruments, including the 400-year-old archlute.
