Mission Interpretation
Be a Mission Interpreter Along with many other ELCA synods, Metro New York has a network of trained volunteers who serve as mission interpreters. Our mission interpreters personally relate mission stories on a regular basis in order to thank people for their support, help people understand where their offering goes, and connect people with the wider church. This is a flexible ministry that can be adapted to any congregation. As we expand our network, we’d like to see a mission interpreter (or two) in your congregation. The synod offers regular trainings; take a look at the current offerings listed under Events. Please join us! What do mission interpreters do? - Make bimonthly (once every other month) presentations to their congregations
- Express thanks to all who support all our ministries
- Be a resource to the congregations by sharing interpretive materials
- Keep in touch with the Director of Mission Interpretation
- Attend a yearly workshop to receive resources and training from synod staff
- Commit to be a mission interpreter for two years
Qualifications - Faith-filled: a love of Christ and the church!
- Good communication skills
- Knowledgeable about the ELCA
- Active member and supporter of an ELCA congregation
- Willing to attend training sessions
