Mission Interpretation
Stories to Tell & Gifts to Share In 2006, the ELCA chose Metro New York as one of five synods to pilot Stories to Tell & Gifts to Share. Now available from Augsburg Fortress, this stewardship resource uses mission interpretation to encourage congregational giving. Several congregations in our synod piloted Stories to Tell & Gifts to Share; Trinity, Rocky Point used the resource as an annual response method. “The program provided many good resources, but most of all it added enthusiasm and excitement to the annual drive,” reports Trinity’s stewardship chairperson, Joan Wozniak. “It has been a true blessing to encourage others to share their stories.” Trinity increased their giving and enjoyed talking together about what God was doing in their lives. The congregation plans to continue its storytelling. Stories to Tell & Gifts to Share embraces the power of storytelling—both Bible stories and our own stories. Congregational members are encouraged to identify and tell the stories of how God works in their life. The CD-ROM includes customizable Bible studies (geared for children, teens, and adults), planning materials, bulletin inserts, litanies, prayer petitions, letter templates, and ideas for hosting storytelling events. A companion piece created specifically for congregations of African descent is also included. To read more about Stories to Tell & Gifts to Share in Seeds for the Parish, click here. The CD-ROM and supplementary materials are available from Augsburg Fortress.
