Diakonia

Program Overview

What is diakonia?
diakonia is a two-year process of spiritual formation and theological education for baptized members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or anyone wishing in good faith to study these teachings.

diakonia develops dynamic disciples by providing:

  • enjoyable learning
  • amazing personal growth in faith
  • the joy of deepening your relationship with God and the Church
  • clarity in forms of grace-filled service to our "neighbor"

Christine Pointer, a recent graduate, says, "diakonia has made me understand why as Lutherans we do what we do both in our worship and in the world. It is giving me a deeper understanding of the Bible and its (ultimately our) history and is equipping me to talk more comfortably about my faith in God and my Savior Jesus Christ.
"I believe all, whether or not you grew up in the Lutheran tradition, like me, have so much to learn. diakonia gives you a background and foundation to follow God's call to "go out" and "do"! I highly encourage all to prayerfully consider diakonia, not only to strengthen you for weekly worship, but also for your Monday through Saturday walk. You are never too old, too busy, too tired, nor too knowledgeable to gain something from this course. The energy and enthusiasm from fellow Christians is contagious."
