• Individuals can receive assistance from Lutheran Disaster Response of New York Disaster Case Management.
• Congregations needing assistance with recovery from storm damages are encouraged to register here or call Pr. Craig Miller.
• Lutheran Counseling Center offers free or low-cost counseling to those impacted by the storm. LCC also offers training for teachers and parents in helping children to process their emotional reactions after the storm
• The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and New York City/Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster provide New York Hurricane Sandy Recovery Resources, with information for everything from animals to housing to mold to volunteering.

• Long Term Recovery Groups gather a variety of agencies and organizations active in disaster recovery in order to maximize our efforts to assist victims. Congregations and conferences may want to send representatives to their local LTRG.

• Long Island Sandy recovery positions
  The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, on behalf of the Long Island Long Term Recovery Group, is hiring four disaster recovery support staffers. For the job descriptions and information on how to apply, click on the job titles below:

Current Needs

Eight congregations in the Metropolitan New York Synod sustained significant damage from Superstorm Sandy. Through the help of partners in the synod and around the ELCA these congregations have made great strides toward recovery. Your donations to our synod Sandy fund can help these congregations rebuild.

Donations of new furnishings and appliances are also needed at some churches. Check back for updated needs.
