Anti-Racism Introductory Training

09:00 AM - 04:00 PM
Redeemer - St. John's Lutheran Church
939 83rd Street
Brooklyn, US-NY , 11228-2817

A full day introduction to anti-racism

The Metropolitan New York Synod is committed to confronting the sin of racism and dismantling the personal and systemic walls that divide, hurt and oppress God’s children. In 2015, the Synod Assembly adopted a resolution committing to training as many people in our synod as possible in anti-racism. MNYS hosted four trainings last year. This year we will continue to offer introductory anti-racism trainings, beginning this fall with this training on October 21 at Redeemer-St. John’s in Brooklyn.

This is for leaders in our church: all elected and volunteer synodical leaders; synodical boards, committees, teams; rostered leaders, synodically-rostered leaders, candidates in the call process, congregation call committees, and staff. Registration is encouraged for those who have yet to attend a training but is also open to those who would like to deepen their engagement by attending a second time.

There will also be one additional Introductory training in 2017-2018, as well as two trainings focused on Internalized Racism. Internalized Racism occurs when people of color internalize the cultural messages and distortions of racism and, from an early age, learn behaviors that perpetuate it. These trainings will be in English and in Spanish. Please stayed tuned for dates and locations of those workshops.
