Exhibition: Word and Image: Martin Luther's Reformation

All Day Event

The Morgan Library & Museum
225 Madison Avenue
New York, US-NY , 10016

An exhibition in New York sponsored in part by the Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD)

The State Museum of Prehistory in Halle, the Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt, the German Historical Museum in Berlin, and Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha have partnered with the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City, New York to create an exhibition to honor the 500th anniversary of the 95 Theses and the foundations of the Reformation.

Morgan Library & Museum exhibition curator, Dr. John McQuillen, shares, "We have some fantastic items coming to New York (many of which have never left Germany, or former East Germany, before), including: one of the 4 remaining single-sheet imprints of the 95 Theses, several important letters by Luther including the one he wrote to Emperor Charles V immediately before going into hiding at the Wartburg, about 10 paintings of Lucas Cranach, a priest garment worn by Luther at Merseburg Cathedral, the first printed Lutheran hymnal, and many of the most critical printed works."

More information to come on the exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Pitts Theology Library in Atlanta.

To learn more about this exhibition, visit: The Morgan Library & Museum website.
