International Women's Day Resources

March82017

It has been said that women have the greatest potential to bring about lasting change in their communities. But around the world, women have not been afforded the same access to education by the social and political structures in their home churches and countries.

You have the opportunity to change that. Each year on March 8, people around the world commemorate International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. On this day, members of the ELCA celebrate by supporting and lifting up the International Women Leaders initiative – one of ten priorities in the Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA.

Ready to get started? Here’s how:

  • Make a gift to invest in the education of women.
  • Pray for an awakening to the power and capacity our sisters have in transforming the world.
  • Share the difference education has made in your life on social media using #ELCAWomen.
  • Get your congregation involved in International Women’s Day. New this year, the International Women’s Day booklet provides fundraising ideas, including a step-by-step virtual book drive, ideas for planning an International Women’s Day worship service, and much more to help you get started. A new bulletin insert is also available.
