World hunger resources for Lent

 

Our synod’s Hunger Committee is encouraging congregations to host Potlucks to End World Hunger as a way to gather with one another and support ELCA World Hunger. Here are some resources which they have collected in one place to help your congregation:

ELCA World Hunger Resource Packet—Lent 2017

This packet, which was recently sent to all ELCA congregations, includes a collection of the latest resources designed to help you raise awareness and funds for ELCA World Hunger in your congregation. Included are the 2017 Lenten Study for ELCA World Hunger’s 40 Days of Giving 2017Action Guide for Congregations, and reproducible stories. This full resource is also available for order. Many of the pieces within are available for download.

Action Guide for Congregations

This guide features ideas and resources to help activate your congregation in the fight against hunger and poverty with a special focus on Lent 2017. This resource includes a "Lenten Litany" focusing on hunger (page 10). The guideis included in the ELCA World Hunger Resource Packet—Lent 2017. It is available for download or order (under the "Lent & Easter" tab).

Lenten Meal Series

Find recipes, table prayers, country statistics, table prayers and stories about how our gifts to ELCA World Hunger are making a difference in 18 countries around the world. "The Food Stamp Meal"highlights hunger in the U.S. Each meal series can be downloaded (under the "Lent & Easter" tab) for your use.

2016 Lenten Studies

Six sessions on various themes related to hunger that can be used as a series or as stand-alones. Each contains devotional resources, a group activity, a story from a ministry supported by ELCA World Hunger, and discussion questions.  Sessions can be adapted to your needs. This is available for download here (under the "Lent & Easter" tab).

2017 Lenten Study Guide

If your congregation has been engaged in fighting hunger for a while, you might want to consider using this series or an adaptable session from this study that focuses on how our Lutheran faith shapes our perspective and role in the economy.  Each session looks at one key aspect of the economy and explores questions related to economic justice. This resource includes children’s activities. Included in the ELCA World Hunger Resource Packet—Lent 17 and also available for download (under the "Lent & Easter" tab) or order.

This 8-page brochure gives a brief overview of the work of ELCA World Hunger, including a map showing where our gifts are at work. It can be ordered in packs of 10.
