Who We Are

Ascension Lutheran Church, a presence in Franklin Square since 1923, is a member of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God and that the Lutheran Confessions are the true understanding of the Bible. We confess the historic ecumenical creeds: Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed. Holy Baptism and Holy Communion are the means of grace through which God creates and sustains faith. In Holy Communion we receive the true body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

MISSION STATEMENT

A caring family of God brought together by grace, nourished by the Word and Sacrament.  Led by the Spirit, sent out in service to share God's love, so that all may find a community in which they can Belong, Believe and Become all that God promises.

May we further introduce ourselves to you by using the three active verbs in our mission statement?

Belong: All who walk through our doors receive a warm and open-armed welcome. There is room at this table for all God’s people.

Believe: At the Ascension Lutheran Church to “believe” is an action verb. Beyond mere intellectual faith, we hold that to believe in Jesus Christ is to live for others. It is a “faith active in love”.

Become: We are not yet what God wants us to be. We rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us into a future yet unknown. This congregation is a place where we continue to explore and discover what it means to be a disciple of Christ and what it means to be a community of God’s people in Franklin Square and beyond.
