Camp Ma-He-Tu

2025 Camp Ma-He-Tu, Lutheran Girls' Camp Association Partner Report

Madeline L. Sharrock, Member of the Board of Directors

We are thrilled each summer to provide a magical summer experience for our campers. Ma-He-Tu has continuity that is rare in the camping community.  Most summers 80-85% of our staff were once Ma-He-Tu campers themselves. Our staff is proof that our campers develop skills to lead others, grow in their faith and establish meaningful relationships with their peers. Our little congregation in the woods has been wonderfully vibrant over the last few summers.  It's hard to find a time during a day at camp when you can't hear laughter and singing.

In order to make the magic of summer happen, members of our Board of Directors volunteer their time, year-round, to secure funding, maintain our physical site, recruit campers, hire summer staff, ensure we are meeting the requirements of accrediting state and park agencies, and work with insurance and food service companies.  All our efforts are centered on our mission and purpose, setting the stage for an unforgettable summer of fun and growth.  It has been our pleasure, since 1937 to watch our campers grow mentally, physically, socially and spiritually.

After 88 years the Camp Ma-He-Tu Board of Directors decided to hire a full-time camp director.  We conducted a nationwide search and have successfully hired an energetic and enthusiastic camp director that we pray will be with us for many years.  A full-time director has been a goal for many years to provide stability with staff and campers and their families.  Our new director will be the new voice and face of Camp Ma-He-Tu and will enable us to keep our lines of communication much more open and aid in year-round recruitment of future campers and staff members.

Please help us bring as many girls as possible into the Ma-He-Tu family.  We would greatly appreciate an invitation to speak with congregations through the Metropolitan New York Synod. Guiding families to our website will also spread the word and mission of Camp Ma-He-Tu. (https://mahetu.org/)
