Multicultural Mission

Christ has called us to seek God’s unity among the many people and cultures around us. So in our context, living out our faith means intentionally engaging with a diversity of neighbors who call New York home. This is our multicultural mission, and the synod is working on educational tools to help leaders with this.

It also includes walking with "strangers"—newcomers and immigrants—in our synod. This means:

  1. establishing new congregations where people can worship in the language of their hearts (currently worship is conducted in 16 languages in our synod); and
  2. helping established congregations to expand their outreach.

The Multicultural Commission’s primary purpose is to assist our congregations and leaders to learn more about the many cultures of our churches, neighborhoods and synod.

The commission works with five multicultural tables:

African Descent Ministries

Arab & Middle Eastern Ministries

Asian Ministries

European Ministries

Latino Ministries
