Events

Hispanic Heritage Month begins next week (September 15–October 15), and congregations throughout the synod will be marking it with a range of events — worship, music, resource fairs, and conversation. We especially hope you'll join us for our festive kickoff on September 16 at Caminos de Jesus, and for our webinar conversation with Rev. Dr. Sam Cruz on October 5. Here's what's coming up:

• Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff — Wednesday, September 16, 6–9 pm | Caminos de Jesús, 339 E. 84th Street, NYC. Worship in Spanish with English translation, followed by a meal and festive music. RSVP here or download the poster.
• Community Event— Saturday, September 19, 11 am | Unidad y Fe, 9106 Jamaica Ave, Woodhaven. A free community event featuring a résumé-writing workshop, food basket giveaways, and information on local resources and services for the whole family. Contact: (718) 487-4450.
• Concierto Coral: Coral Ecuménica Cántico Nuevo — Saturday, September 19, 6 pm | Zion Saint Mark Lutheran Church, 339 E. 84th Street, NYC. A concert celebrating Hispanic heritage through traditional song and choral harmony. See the announcement.
• Conversation on Latinx Communities with Rev. Dr. Sam Cruz — Monday, October 5, 6 pm, via Zoom. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we're taking the opportunity to discuss the beliefs and cultural values of Latinx communities — the largest ethnic minority group in the U.S. Join us for a conversation addressing misconceptions, led by Rev. Dr. Samuel Cruz, Senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sunset Park and Associate Professor of Religion and Society at Union Theological Seminary. Register here.
• Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Freeport — Sunday, October 11, 10 am | La Iglesia Luterana de Cristo, 61 N. Grove St., Freeport. Worship followed by lunch, dancing, raffles, and games.
• Save the Date: Celebración de la Herencia Latina — Saturday, October 17, 10 am–3 pm | Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave, Garden City, with the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. Worship, music, food, and fellowship for all ages — more details to come.
