ICYMI: June’s Congregational Shout Outs

Every Friday on Facebook we give a shout out to something we saw happening in one of our MNYS congregations. In case you missed it, here’s this month’s list.

Music is an important part of our worship. This summer Grace Lutheran Church, Astoria is preparing for a new organ. See some the behind the scenes photos as this instrument takes shape!

Saint Barnabas Church, Howard Beach is getting ready for the commemoration of Barnabas on Sunday. After Paul was converted to Christianity, Barnabas welcomed him to Jerusalem, and later the two traveled together on missionary journeys. Also, before England adopted the Gregorian calendar, St. Barnabas Day fell on the longest day of the year -- which means those sunglasses will be put to good use!

"What are the stereotypes of pastors and church people? How does your church fit them? Defy them? How can your church’s history and tradition be reclaimed in new ways? Who are potential ministry partners in your church’s neighborhood?"

Learn about The Park Church Co-op, Brooklyn and see some questions for thinking about your own mission at the end.

Do you remember when #BeAnAstronaut was trending? A record number of people applied to join NASA's 2017 astronaut class, including Jasmin Moghbeli, who is not only from New York, but a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Baldwin. Congrats, Jasmin, and good luck!

What a simple and sweet way to welcome a new child of God! Older children at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Hicksville, NY made this card for a newly baptized child.
