Our partners at Wartburg Theological Seminary have announced an exciting new development: Centro Teológio Luterano Multicultural (CTLM; see the bulletin, HERE). Below is a letter from Wartburg's President, The Rev. Dr. Kristin Johnston Largen, Ph.D. (she/hers), discussing more details of this wonderful new expansion of Latinx ministries.

_____

I am delighted to announce the launch of a new center at Wartburg Theological Seminary, Centro Teológio Luterano Multicultural (CTLM). This new center represents the evolution of Wartburg’s longstanding and ongoing investment in Latinx ministries in Texas, previously represented by the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest. CTLM allows Wartburg to continue and greatly expand this work, serving our partners both in Texas and across the church.

After extensive conversations with many different stakeholders, as well as an evaluation of the current degree and certificate offerings at Wartburg Seminary, it became clear that a new center would best serve the current needs of the church, and of Latinx leaders and ministries. Given Wartburg Seminary’s multiple pathways for the MDiv. Degree, including a distance learning option, as well as our two TEEM programs, including Caminemos Juntos/Journey Together (a competency-based TEEM program that does not require any travel), there is no longer a need for either certificate or degree programs based in Texas.

What the church does need, however, is more educational opportunities and networks of support, particularly with and for Latinx leaders, and greater cultural awareness training for congregations seeking aptitude in multicultural ministries. This need is nationwide, and Wartburg is expanding its reach to meet that need. Because of our long history and strong cultural ties in Texas, the operational center for CTLM will remain in Texas. CTLM will be directed by Pastor Violeta Siguenza, whose office will be housed in Emanuel Lutheran Church/Iglesia Luterana Emanuel, Dallas, TX.

We are deeply grateful to our long-term supporters of Wartburg Seminary’s work as the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest, and we want to assure you that your gifts and endowments will continue to serve students preparing for ELCA rostered leadership.

The attached flier offers additional information, and we invite you to share it broadly with others who might be interested. Please visit our website – www.wartburgseminary.edu/ctlm – for more information.

We ask for your prayers and support as we launch this new center, and we look forward to working with you in the months and years to come.

In Christ,

The Rev. Dr. Kristin Largen
