A Message from Branden Dupree, MNYS Director for Evangelical Mission/Assistant to the Bishop

Apr 14, 2020

Dear siblings in Christ,

When everything is uncertain, everything that is important becomes clear.

The COVID- 19 pandemic is having an unprecedented impact on the health of our loved ones, the vitality of our communities, the businesses we rely upon and the way we live our daily lives. As we continue to navigate through these unique and evolving challenges, one thing that is clear is that being church together is essential.

Staying connected despite being socially distant is our living witness in humanity and compassion. Our Synod, in tandem with the Churchwide organization has begun to shift priorities to focus on the needs of our peers and the commitment to the communities we serve.

Our doors may be closed but our Mission is open. Please continue to give to your congregation and give regularly. Our congregations rely on your offering and gifts to sustain the faithful ministry in our communities.

In addition to giving to your local congregation, please prayerfully consider the following ways to continue to be a blessing:

  1. Make a difference by donating The Bishop’s Discretionary Fund. https://donorbox.org/coronavirus-crisis-bishop-discretionary-fund - These critical funds directly support our peers in times of crisis, such as this one.
  2. Offer prayer and check in. – None of us are untouched in what is happening. Spend quality time together with God and with one another.
  3. Share your support. – Spread the word on social media and encourage others to do the same. May your digital presence be a ministry. #ELCACHURCHTOGETHER

Finally, thank you. Generosity is our best investment. Know that people will be standing on the shoulders of how we respond generously today. We are church together.

Sincerely,
